Bakhmaro Central Street Illuminated with LED Energy Efficient Lightning System

22 August, 2022

On August 22, 2022, on a 4.5 km section of the central street of Bakhmaro resort, an energy efficient LED lighting system was tested by investors. The Bakhvi HPP, a company implementing two HPP projects on the river Bakhvistskali (Bakhvi 1 and Bakhvi 2) and the USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program representatives accepted the project and transferred into ownership of Chokhatauri Municipality. Mayor of Chokhatauri Municipality David Sharashidze and the representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia attended the event.

The central street lighting project of Bakhmaro resort is a part of Bakhvi HPP social programs, through which the company committed to install lighting system in Bakhmaro. This project was implemented by Bakhvi HPP together with its partner organization, USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program. The project commenced on July 1, 2022, and was completed in a rather quick manner. Some 128 new poles were installed and equipped with energy efficient LED lighting system. This, in turn, implies illumination of the populated part of Bakhmaro, which includes equipment of Forest and Adjara streets with a new lighting system. The project scheduled to be completed by the end of September is  already officially handed over to the local municipality and the population. The Acceptance Act was signed, on the one hand, by the Head of the USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program, Aleksey Sankonsky, and the Director of the Bakhvi HPP, Giorgi Abramishvili, and on the other hand, by the Mayor of Chokhatauri Municipality, Davit Sharashidze.

"As you know, our company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program on October 25, 2021. I am happy that our teams came up with a unique project for Bakhmaro. Lighting the central street with energy efficient system was both necessary and timely as the old system had been completely obsolete. On the 4.5 km section, we replaced poles, installed total of 128 power line poles by placing them in the ground for greater protection and installed an energy efficient system. It should be noted that based on the social program of Bakhvi HPP eight persons living in the village of Chkhakaura were employed on the project. I would like to thank our partner USAID's Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program for sharing our initiative and with the joint effort we presented Bakhmaro with a project that is sustainable by its nature and will be in long-term service for the residents and visitors of Bakhmaro," said Director of Bakhvi HPP Giorgi Abramishvili.

"The pilot project of Bakhmaro energy efficient LED lights is equally important for safety of rural residents and businesses. The project will promote the use of energy efficient lighting in areas that have increased tourism potential," said Alexei Sankovsky, Director of the USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program.

On the central street of Bakhmaro resort, the new energy efficient LED system switching took place on August 22, 2022. The Mayor of Chokhatauri, David Sharashidze, representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, USAID, USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program and Bakhvi HPP attended the event. The project is the joint efforts of Bakhvi HPP and USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program and is a part of the Bakhvi HPP social program.
