22 July, 2022

On July 19, 2022, the National Environmental Agency published a conclusion on the changes in the scoping report for construction and operation terms of the scheduled runoff Bakhvi 2 Hydropower Plant on the Bakhvistskali River in Ozurgeti Municipality. According to the Environmental Assessment Code, successful completion of scoping is followed by the EIA stage, during which the company is obliged to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment Report; for that a number of studies need to be carried out and prepared for public discussion.

"The Bakhvi 2 Hydropower Plant project has moved to an important stage full of new commitments. We are fully prepared for the EIA stage. As you know, the river Bakhvistskali valley is not unknown for us. Last year, we conducted large-scale studies while researching the construction area of the Bakhvi 1 Hydropower Plant. The knowledge and experience gained will be extremely helpful. We proceed with the analogous standard. Here, just as in other projects, we have highly qualified professionals employed and international experts are engaged in the environmental and social programming components and in construction and technical segments. I believe we will submit the Environmental Impact Assessment Report to the National Environmental Agency in a timely manner and meet the population of Mtispiri for public discussion," said Mikheil Nibladze, Head of the Bakhvi 2 Hydropower Plant Project.

The scoping report on changes in the construction and operation terms of the Bakhvi 2 HPP was submitted to LEPL National Environmental Agency on June 2, 2022, and was made public on the official webpage on June 6, 2022. The public discussion on the scoping report was held on June 22, 2022, in the Administrative Building of Mtispiri village, Ozurgeti Municipality. The Conclusion of the National Environmental Agency was published today, on July 19, 2022.
