Career Opportunities in the Energy Sector - meeting at the Mtispiri Public School

07 June, 2022

On June 7, 2022, as a part of the Bakhvi 1 Hydropower Plant Educational Program, yet another meeting was scheduled with the senior students (Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12) of the Ozurgeti Municipality village Mtispiri Public School. This time, per company invitation, young members of the Georgian Renewable Energy Development Association (GREDA) and Georgian Energy Market visited the Mtispiri Public School. The GREDA and Georgian Energy Market representatives introduced the students with the material prepared on renewable energy development and consumption in Georgia. The initiative is aimed at popularization of the energy sector and attraction of the youth with potential for professional success and career growth.

GREDA Deputy Executive Director Iryna Petriashvili, GREDA Project Manager Mata Gordeziani, and Georgian Energy Market Analyst Guga Kupradze led the meeting. The visitors shared with the students their experience in the energy sector, challenges in the process, pros and cons and prospects of choosing a career in the field of energy, and some details of their daily responsibilities. The meeting was held in the format of presentations followed by discussion.

"For GREDA, one of the key priorities is delivering to the public correct information on renewable energy. This year, our Association launched an educational project with the objective of raising awareness of senior school students throughout the country in the area of renewable energy and environment. At the same time, it is critical to popularize the energy sector among the youths and introduce them with career opportunities in this field as we face acute shortage of young professionals in the energy labor market. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Bakhvi 1 HPP Project implementing company for organizing the meeting with the Mtispiri Public School students. Alongside development of Guria hydro resources, it is crucial to support the youth in developing interest in the energy sector so that in future more local specialists will be employed at Guria hydropower plants."

"GREDA is an Association working on renewable energy. We are happy that the Association has given us an opportunity to introduce the experts in this field to the Mtispiri Public School students. I should note that this meeting was a success and the senior year students heard immediately from the young professionals a lot of new things about the energy sector and opportunities for professional career choice in this field. On our part, we can support and encourage the youths - and we have stated about this opportunity - if they decide to associate their future career with the energy sector," said David Mikeladze, Bakhvi 1 HPP ESG Manager.
